Preview: 100% Design, London Design Festival

100% Design is one of the key events during The London Design Festival supporting the design industry; promoting the best in global design and uncovering emerging brands.

Now in it’s 19th year, the key concept for 2013 ‘Creative Balance’ reflects the mixture of new challenges and opportunities experienced by the design industry as it competes internationally. Highlighting a balance between expression and resourcefulness, the theme represents the creative edge; a place where every element is held together to create a dynamic equilibrium.

Following last year’s success, the curation of the show will again focus on four industry sectors, each arranged around a central ‘hub’ – Interiors, Office, Kitchen & Bathroom, Eco Design & Build – creating clear navigation for visitors. The hubs will showcase the work of thought-leaders across the design community with space to meet, learn and be inspired. The central bar at the heart of the show is reached through a 66m long tunnel, designed by creative and live events specialists Studio Design UK.

Here’s our hot pick of emerging brands and interesting designers to watch out for.

Debuting their first collection of furniture, TOBYhouse will present Sacrifice Furniture; a range of pared down structures with mid century proportions.

The 100% Portugal Pavilion, organised by Craft Design Construction (a new brand as part of Colour Design Concept Ltd by architect Álvaro Siza), will showcase the work of young designers including DAM, DRAMA and Bichos.

The Acorn chair has clear 20th century influences but feels modern, unpretentious, inviting and above all, fun.

Boss Design

Boss Design will showcase their cutting edge take on British design, we love this concept and colour scheme – would look great at Adelto HQ!

Canada Wood UK

Canada Wood UK will be talking about temperate hardwoods, their properties, availability, end-uses and environmental credentials. Do visit their stand.

Douglas James

We love this The Y-ASHADE light, which takes inspiration from the minimal lighting trend of wire and exposed bulb. Find it at the new The Gateway exhibition.
