Luxury Raas Haveli Hotel in Jodhpur, India

Right in the heart of Jodhpur’s walled city, this luxurious 39-room boutique hotel is located in a Rajasthani palace or haveli as known in the Urdu language.

Restored and spruced up hotel Raas looks contemporary and ritzy – a sanctum of serenity in Jodhpur’s rustic, labyrinthine old quarter.

The 18th-century building has been built from rose-red sandstone including the new buildings. These new buildings are modern and contemporary in their use of space, light and context, and yet grounded in tradition. Jodhpur’s rose stone unites the new with the old, even as modern designs and patterns in its dressing and carving add an exciting and fresh dimension to the region’s old stone carving industry.

Brothers Nikhilendra Singh and Dhananajaya, cousins to the Maharaja, opened the hotel with the help of British investors. They assigned Delhi based Amrish Arora and Rajiv Majumdar to facilitate with design and interiors. Singh heads an events management company that organised Liz Hurley’s swish nuptials in 2007.

Raas is the only luxury hotel to be based in the town. All rooms and suites include balconies and most come with spectacular views of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort. The state of art rooms are minimalist and stylish, they make the most of Jodhpur’s pink sandstone, stunning black terrazzo with splashes of blue.

Facilities include a outdoor swimming pool set in Moghul-inspired gardens, spa, two restaurants serving Indian and international cuisine, a roof top bar, terrace and Raas blue auto-rickshaw or ‘Tuk Tuks’ that will take you anywhere you wish to go.

In its entirety the Ras Haveli remains today the best preserved, largest and most complete urban noble residence perhaps in all Rajasthan. Images courtesy of Raas.
