Luxury at the UXUA Casa Hotel, Brazil

UXUA Casa Hotel (pronounced oo-SHOO-ahh) is located in the vibrant fishing village of Trancoso, on Brazil’s breathtaking Bahian coast. Wilbert Das, former creative director of fashion label Diesel, is the brains behind this eco-chic retreat and his eye for design is evident throughout the hotel and its 10 casas.

The five-star boutique hotel opened in 2009. UXUA’s architecture and design incorporates elements of Trancoso’s history. Portuguese adventurers, Indians, and even Brazilian hippies have influenced in some way the architecture, art and antiques that make each casa a unique expression.  The emphasis is on luxury, but that luxury is rustic, without pretension, and with careful attention paid to the natural environment. Local craftsmanship and recycled, organic materials were used whenever possible, making UXUA not only a standing history of the village, but a true embodiment of it.

All ten casas feature full kitchens, private gardens, indoor & outdoor living rooms, open-sky bathrooms, antiques and Bahian artwork, king-size beds, wireless internet and satelite television. Some casas include private plunge pools, jacuzzis, hanging terraces, as well as private dining space on the historic Quadrado.

A lush natural landscape and air of tranquility combine to make Trancoso like no other destination, and have helped it become one of the most-desired tropical locales of South America. In addition to its stunning natural and visual qualities, the cultural roots and traditions of the Southern Bahian people, descended from Portuguese, African, and indigenous ancestors, make this paradise complete.
