Ultra-luxe The Residences by InterContinental Genève

Luxury British hotelier InterContinental Hotels Group has unveiled The Residences at the InterContinental Genève hotel in Switzerland.

New York interior designer Tony Chi and his associate William Paley oversaw the $110 million refurbishment of The Residences. The three hotel residences are stately spaces, and ooze luxury and opulence.

The luxury Swiss hotel in Geneva, which was built in 1963, is situated in lush parkland, and lies at the heart of Geneva’s diplomatic enclave. A mere 3-minute walk from the United Nations and International Centre of Congress CICG, this imposing 18-storey icon has hosted people such as Sophia Loren, Fidel Castro and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Back in the day, The Residences would be booked out for long periods by the Saudi Royal family and the ruling family of the UAE.

“The objective was to provide the hotel with a completely new look – modern, but classical – and at one with the natural beauty and sophisticated international presence of the city on the Rhone,” says Chi.

The design of the luxury residences have been inspired by the opulent palaces of the past and comprise of a ‘diplomatic residence’, ‘presidential residence and ‘the residence’. The residences boast generous living spaces, and come with lavishly decorated marble bathrooms and panoramic views of Lake Geneva, the Jura Mountains and the Mont Blanc.

“The overall design, the colours, the materials, the furniture were all chosen to give the InterContinental Genève a grand presence that is both welcoming to guests and symbolic of the city’s important role in Swiss life and global affairs,” explains Chi.

The ‘diplomatic residence’ consists of a separate living room and dining area, master dressing chamber, master marble bathroom, rain shower and tub room, powder room, study, two guest powder rooms, and pantry. The ‘presidential residence’ is made up of two connecting ‘diplomatic residences’. And ‘the residence’ sits on the top floor of the existing hotel boasting 360-degree views of Geneva.
