Rockwell Group has teamed up with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to design the W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, a cosmopolitan resort on Sentosa Island.
Only 15 minutes from Singapore’s business and shopping districts, this lush tropical island provides the perfect setting for a hotel, spa and venue where business meets pleasure. The island’s beautiful beaches and nature create an ideal oasis easily accessible from the busy city.
Bringing the outside in, motifs and materials are drawn from Singapore and Sentosa Island. Orchids, rosewood and traditional floral textiles provide the inspiration and patterns to convey the warmth of the island. The environment reflects the influence of the island’s culture, sensibility and surroundings while keeping the chic fun of the W brand in the forefront.
The red carpet greets every guest, straight from the car through the entry and leading up the grand stair to the lobby. A waterfall also welcomes the guests, complete with colorful projected light and floral patterns. Two restaurants are located on this level, one for all-day dining, the other an Argentinian grill.
The grand stair delivers guests to the lobby with ocean views. The Welcome desk is laser-cut backlit rosewood, using the orchid as its floral form as light peeks through the screen. The rosewood check-in desks seem to rise out of floral laser cut patterns on the floor, as they become silhouettes of the flowers themselves.
Upscale sitting room by day and DJ-driven club by night, the Living Room is the place to meet. A series of comfortable lounging areas await: a sand-dune lounge with cream-colored seating and floral patterns etched in rosewood; a lounge over a waterfall and four different terraced platforms with DJ booths, seating areas and more waterfalls.
Cocoon-like furniture provides more privacy, along with a whisper booth for phone calls and escape. Views of the ocean and pool are seen through a large wooden frame. Media tables with menus are located in select lounge areas, and the laser-cut globe lighting decorates the space with shards of light at night.
The luxury bedrooms are enveloped in flowers, the four room types (basic, spa guest rooms, junior and executive suites) use purples, greys, browns and neutral tones to create a calm setting. Lighting plays a role in this, especially at night with a glowing headboard, fixtures, bathtub and even the pillows after turndown service. The laser-cut rosewood headboard incorporates floral patterned leather upholstery and backlighting for different times of day. With a playful blurring of public and private, there is a window to the tub. The flowers extend to the carpet pattern too, and reflect the extensive research required to make a perfect arrangement of flowers within every room.
