Residential building facing the bay of Lima, Peru

Lima-based architectural practice, Artardi Architects, have designed the Bayfront Building project. Completed in 2010, this contemporary residential building is located on the oceanfront in Malecon de Chorrillos in the bay of Lima, Peru.

The Bayfront Building is a contemporary residential complex that overlooks onto the bay of Lima. The architecture is a blend of contemporary with the old. The new apartments benefit from large balconies, indoor parking and a shared outdoor swimming pool.

According to the architects: ” The commission is unique as the land is next to a big house declared an old historical monument.

“The solution seeks to find the middle ground between the natural height of a building of this nature and the low, traditional height of the historic building.

“The solution is the gradation in the volume of the building: on the one hand, the stepping of the entire depth of the building, which achieves six stories in the front towards the large house and nine to the side of the adjoining apartment block building and, staggered terraces, from longest to shortest and from bottom to top, which reinforce the desire to lessen the severity of the transition between the two buildings.

“Additionally, an intervention in the skin of the western front of the building is carried out, replacing the image of the building between party walls for the image of the building organized in a corner.

“Thus, this proposal seeks to convert the building, not only in an architectural expression in itself, but above all in an agent of urban integration and link between past, present and future of the site.”
