Contemporary Wilden Street House by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Fortitude Valley-based architectural practice, Shaun Lockyer Architects, has created the Wilden Street House project. Completed in 2012, the contemporary home is located in Paddington Australia.

Wilden Street house is a progressive and ambitious transformation of a derelict pre-war cottage on a beautiful site in Brisbane.

According to the architects: “Despite the steep landscape, the house nestles into the site offering complete privacy and a leafy, flat back yard that enjoys north-east facing city views. The house itself offers unprecedented space and volume to achieve a generous family home, rarely possible on a ‘small lot’ site.

“The design explores ‘chiseled’ forms in the architectural expression and interior resolution which result in warm and dynamic interior volumes that are flooded with light from above. The craftsmanship of the house is one of its greatest attributes with a timeless and seamless execution of joinery, cabinetry and detail.

“The focus on indoor and outdoor living culminates in a double height outdoor living space that frames city views and connects to the garden and dramatic pool. The rear of the house offers a somewhat unexpected statement in the form of a three dimensionally expressed timber façade that punctuates the end of the house and also contains the master suite.

“This is an ambitious house that was made possible through a superb relationship between client, architect and builder, the quality of which is manifest in every detail.”
