Carlton Gardens: A striking modern London apartment
Luxury interior architecture and design studio, 1508 London, has designed the Carlton Gardens project. The two-floor apartment in Carlton Gardens is situated in St James’s, London, England.
The apartment measures 2,900 sq ft and occupies the sixth and seventh floor of a contemporary mixed-use building, designed by renowned architect, James Stirling.
Benefiting from far reaching and impressive views across the London skyline, Carlton Gardens itself is steeped in history, situated next to the Carlton House Terraces which were once part of the grounds of St James’s Palace.
The subtle interior design colour palette is inspired by traditional English interiors, using rich hues of gold and bronze. Timber panelling is used on the walls and antique mirrors speak of the location’s heritage.
A crucial part of the brief was to display the owner’s impressive art collection. 1508 London identified the most attractive places, within natural sight lines, for the art to be positioned. Lighting was a major factor for illuminating the work and managing the ambience of the space as a whole.
Another key consideration was emphasising the breathtaking views across the city. Work was done to the existing structure to ensure that the views were free from obstruction. The contemporary London property also boasts a spacious roof garden, designed as an extension of the internal floor plan.
Taking the principals of yacht design, 1508 London incorporated flush and sliding doors within the design to maximise space.
The building has its own private gardens which are accessible from The Mall via an impressive stone staircase featuring the bronze statues of George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth Bowes Lyon.
