Luxury Hotel Le Meridien Oran, Algeria

Madrid-based architecture and design practice Rockwell Group Europe the satellite office of Rockwell Group, New York have unveiled their new-build Le Meridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre project. The group teamed up with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to design the luxury hotel, which is owned by Sonatrach. Completed in 2012, the stunning contemporary hotel is located in the Mediterranean city of Oran in Algeria.

Le Méridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre features 254 guestrooms, 28 suites, 12 Royal Suites and two Presidential Suites and forms part of a larger complex which includes a 22,000 square metre exhibition centre. The complex is located about 7kms from Oran city center and approximately 12kms from the city’s Es Senia International Airport.

Bringing a new level of contemporary design to Algeria, the lobby is a gigantic glass box rising from pools of water at the base of the luxury Algerian hotel tower. Artistic motifs  cover the glass shell and 40-foot tall lantern-like tents that provide lounge spaces for international travellers.

The chic room design blends contemporary culture with European heritage to allow creative minds to relax in their own personal space. Local calligrapher, José Miguel Puerta Vilchez, has created a poem that has been artfully converted into metal screens that are featured as space partitions throughout the guest rooms.

The landmark hotel features all-day dining in its world-class restaurant ‘Latest Recipe’. In addition, an intimate Italian eatery, ‘Favola’, focuses on using the freshest ingredients to create timeless and delicious classic dishes from the boot-shaped peninsula in a chic setting. The luxury Algerian hotel also contains a number of bars, including ‘Latitude 35’, an inviting lobby lounge where guests can savour specialty coffees, fine wines and other unique creations. An elegant executive lounge and a pool grill provides further opportunities to socialise or simply unwind.

The dramatic swimming pool area on the edge of the high cliff on which the hotel is situated allow visitors to experience spectacular views of the sparkling Mediterranean waters, as will the large state-of-the-art health club on the second floor. A modern spa and fashionable retail area ensure visitors can indulge their passions. Furthermore, the luxury Mediterranean hotel houses the largest meeting facilities in Northern Africa, representing almost 9,000 square metres of flexible meeting space. This includes a compelling auditorium, an impressive ballroom, a pre-function area and twelve meeting and function rooms including a boardroom that can be adjusted in size and layout to meet different requirements.
