Serene and sumptuous, Domes of Elounda combines the best of Mediterranean style with the opulence of ancient Greece. Based in Elounda, Crete, Domes is located in one of the loveliest parts of Greece, a long-time A-list secret currently favoured by host of famous faces such as Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Rhianna. Formerly a fishing village most famous for views of the nearby island of Spinalonga, the island which inspired Victoria Hislop’s book of the same name, Elounda itself is an extraordinary experience.
Boasting a collection of distinctively designed suites and villas, Domes of Elounda is a fashionable retreat with an accent firmly on privacy. Perched hillside with breath-taking, 360 degree views of glimmering blue ocean, Domes is a glamorous destination that offers something for even the most discerning traveller. Combining smooth-edged architecture with an exotic touch from Moorish additions, such as fretwork screens, silver basins and mirrored furniture; the surrounding vistas of the sea (and the best views of Spinalonga on Crete) all contribute to the exceptional atmosphere.
Catering to all tastes, the resort’s four restaurants serve international and Greek cuisine. In addition to a fresh food buffet restaurant in the main dining room, Topos 1910 is a decked promontory leading out to sea for fine-dining under a canopy of stars. The new, Mesoyios Restaurant brings together a fusion of Mediterranean and Greek cuisine. Anthos, helmed by Michelin-starred chef, Philippe Geneletti, is sea side in an open air space dotted with crisp white linens and olive trees. Offering one-off tasting menus by Michelin starred chefs, it has a supper club feel which attracts high-flying locals, Dishes on offer vary but lobster blinis, crab tartare, milk-fed veal and absinthe sorbet are just some of the star turns in previous menus.
Echoing a bygone era of ancient Greece, with a black mosaic seawater pool, glittering black and gold hammam, sauna, steambath and Jacuzzi, the Spa is something special. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a lavish hideaway in the centre of the hotel.
