Cotswolds chic at Water Meadow Cottage, Oxfordshire

A self-catering holiday cottage may conjure up images of dodgy beds and saggy mattresses with broken springs. Well, think again. Water Meadow Cottage a chic holiday retreat offers you the chance to share the grounds of Blenheim Palace with the 11th Duke of Marlborough.

Located at the end of its own private drive, this former 18th-century hunting lodge, made of Oxfordshire Cotswold stone, is inherently captivating. Shaded by oaks and horse chestnuts, the cottage and its landscaped garden sit on the edge of the River Evenlode, with a traditional stone bridge that guards the working entrance to the Duke of Marlborough’s farmlands.

Once inside, the luxury holiday cottage is styled in a quirky British theme. Think Ochre light fixtures; Cole & Son wallpaper, Royal Doulton fire places and Andrew Martin fabrics.

The cosy, two-storey, two-bedroom holiday cottage boasts a separate dining room, library, fully-equipped kitchen with its own scullery and honesty larder, or if you prefer splashing out Fortnum & Mason hampers can be ordered in.

The family bathroom comes with a walk-in shower, freestanding bathtub and under floor heating.

There’s also a lovely outdoor heated terrace – perfect for alfresco dining, a summerhouse where you can indulge in spa treatments whilst enjoying the wonderful views of the meadows and river.

Blenheim Palace is the home of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, and birthplace of Winston Churchill. Water Meadow Cottage is located only 50 minutes by train from London and less than 2.5 hours from Manchester whilst Oxford is only 15 minutes away.
