London-based designer, Jenny Blanc Interiors, has designed a Barbados villa. Completed in 2012, the luxury home won ‘Best Interior Design’ at the International Property Awards in 2012. The luxury home is located in the Royal Westmoreland estate in Barbados.
This luxury custom built home belongs to Steve Green and his family. The family had enjoyed holidays in Barbados, returning each year for the golf, the food and the climate.
After an initial purchase of a four bedroom villa, the family decided instead to design their dream home (aptly named Tranquillity), enlisting the help of Jenny Blanc, ex-wife to French chef Raymond Blanc.
Armed with a brief to interpret the family’s love of Caribbean colours juxtaposed with contemporary interior design, the results were staggering. The property gained an award at the International Property Awards for ‘Best Interior Design’ in the Americas category.
The family opted for a traditional ‘upside down’ platform, with living and entertainment areas on the first floor and bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms on the ground floor, maximising the views across the fairways of Royal Westmoreland’s golf course and onwards to the Caribbean Sea.
With three daughters to please, Green was keen for them to be involved in the decision making process when choosing their bedroom concepts as much as possible, with each room taking on a distinct personality of its own.
Bespoke features of the bedrooms include Casamance silk lampshades by Heathfield & Company, bed valances in Pierre Frey fabric, and wrought iron lamps by Gaggio Venezia.
The contemporary property’s large living area was designed to create a sense of symmetry and comfort, whilst maintaining the contemporary and minimal theme with no open display storage units. Two Michael Tyler sofas surround a bespoke coffee table built in Barbados, whilst dining takes place at a round Adriana Hoyos table.
