As 2013 draws to a close Adelto looks ahead to the best and most exciting luxury hotel openings across the globe in 2014. 

From boutique hotels to private islands and luxury wellness retreats, here’s our definitive list of the hottest new hotel openings around the world that you will want to be seen in 2014.


Peppers Dunmore Brisbane, Australia

This swanky five-star hotel, a stone’s throw away from Brisbane’s central business district, will open late 2014 in Fortitude Valley. With a glamorous rooftop bar, signature restaurant and skyline gym overlooking a 10m long pool, the new hotel will cater for the sophisticated urban traveller.


Pikaia Lodge, The Galapagos Islands

At 450 metres above sea level, this eco-chic lodge is located on the edge of an extinct volcano on the central island of Santa Cruz. Officially opening in October, it will initially offer 14 rooms with gobsmacking views of the Galapagos. Lucky guests will have access to a private luxury yacht, spa, infinity pool and a tortoise reserve.


Aro Ha, Queenstown, New Zealand

This self-sufficient, luxury detox retreat has been designed and constructed by a team of New Zealand’s leading consultants. Opening in January, the resort will offer vinyasa Yoga, sub-alpine hiking, therapeutic massage and vegetarian cuisine, all in chic surroundings with fabulous views over Lake Wakatipu and the southern Alps.


Velaa Private Island, Maldives

Located on the unspoilt – and secluded – Noonu Atoll, in the north of the Maldives, the opening of Velaa Private Island is one of the most hotly anticipated events of 2014. The 43-room resort will offer an exclusive Clarins spa, one of only a handful in the world, golf academy and haute cuisine from Michelin-star chef Adeline Grattard from Paris, and the most extensive wine cellar in the Indian Ocean.


Royal Palm Marrakech, Morocco

Located just 12 km from the bustling centre of Marrakech, this luxurious five-star property, inspired by Berber culture, is situated within a vast estate amongst age-old olive trees, offering a serene and tranquil haven to its guests. All 135 suites and villas have been lavishly furnished. The suites come with breathtaking views across to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. Due to open spring 2014.


So Singapore, Singapore

Housed in an iconic building with neo-classical façade, the hotel will feature 134 guestrooms with 23 suites. The hotel’s design has been given a chic Singaporean twist with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld exclusively designing the hotel’s emblem, inspired by the age-old story of the discovery of the Lion City by a Sumatran Prince. The Singapore hotel will open in May.


Mondrian London, Great Britain

In spring 2014 Morgans Hotel Group will launch the Mondrian London. Situated on the banks of The River Thames in Sea Containers House. The 359-bedroom hotel will embody the elegance of a transatlantic 1920s liner combined with a healthy dose of 1980s post-modernism reference. The main lobby will feature a giant, external and internal, copper clad wall inspired by the hull of a ship, running from outside the building and glamorously leading guests to the entrance hall within.


Loews Regency, New York, US

Owned by the Tisch family, home to the ‘power breakfast’, the hotel has undergone a $100 million renovation after being closed for more than a year. Situated in the heart of Manhattan on Park Avenue, the Loews Regency Hotel will offer 379 rooms, luxury king guestrooms and 58 suites. A new signature restaurant, spa and hairstylist to the stars, Julien Farel will move his Madison Avenue flagship store to Loews Regency.


Portrait Firenze, Italy

Opening 1st May, the Portrait Firenze is located in the heart of Florence with breathtaking views over the River Arno and iconic Ponte Vecchio and part of the Lungarno Collection. Rooms are inspired by haute couture of the 50s, with suite’s including complimentary use of an iPad. The hotel’s concierge team will offer a bespoke service. Need a personal trainer or in-room massage? Not a problem.


St. James’ Court and Taj 51 Buckingham Gate, Great Britain

The luxury hotel is implementing over a hundred new ‘Taj luxury experiences’, including in-room check-in and signature welcomes for select guests. Taj 51 Buckingham Gate suites and residences are also undergoing renovation. The London hotel will welcome a new lobby and reception lounge, a new restaurant, tea and library lounges and an exclusive private dining area.


Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, Turkey

Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum will be located on the northern side of the peninsula, at ‘Cennet Koyu’ or Paradise Bay, offering panoramic views over the Aegean Sea. Built on a series of levels nestled in the resort’s landscaped hillside, surrounded by ancient olive groves and pine trees.  The resort’s 82 exclusive guestrooms and 20 suites will provide the largest accommodation in the area, all with stunning sun-decks and terraces, and many with private gardens and infinity edged pools.


One&Only Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia

Immersed in the Great Barrier Reef ’s pristine natural environment, One&Only Hayman Island is the northernmost of the Whitsunday Islands, located off the coast of Queensland and just a few hours from Brisbane. Within this private island resort guests will be treated to sumptuous accommodation, delectable dining, rejuvenating spa therapies, private beaches and captivating underwater adventures.
