This winter Baur au Lac in Zurich, overlooking the lake and Alps, is pulling out all the stops to make it the place to stay for a true festive getaway. Zurich has so much to offer at this time of year with traditional Christmas markets and delicious festive treats on every street corner filling the air with fragrant aromas of citrus, spices and hot spiced mulled wine.

The bustling city of Zurich is a must visit during the festive season. Christmas Markets stretch far and wide across the city – visit the market in the Train Station, in the Old Town or for an unconventional alternative there is Heiliger Bim Bam found in a former factory hall with a variety of stalls set to a playlist of latest music. After a day on your feet the Baur au Lac offers a welcome respite with traditional afternoon tea daily in the lobby or glühwein and Christmas stollen in the Baur au Lac park every Thursday and Friday afternoon/early evening.

There are a number of events throughout the festive season. In November the hotel was lit up the city with 46,060 lights on Zurich’s biggest Christmas tree and with a mix jazz, funk, soul, pop and reggae from Larry Woodley.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, enjoy seasonal gastronomy at the Michelin Starred Pavillon and Christmas Day brunch at Salon Français, Petit Palais and Le Hall. Cuisine at Pavillon will include dishes like essence of Guinea Fowl, Imperial Caviar, Laurent Eperon’s Ile D’yeu Bass caught on the line and twice cooked French Hare. But remember to leave room for the hotel’s own ‘Chocolat 1844’, used in a selection of opulent deserts.

The show-stopping finale to Baur au Lac’s holiday festivities will be the magical New Year’s Eve Ball and Dinner. This where you can choose to dine at either Pavillon, Le Petit Palais & Les Salons or Rive Gauche, each serving a gastronomic feast which is followed by live music from the gala band ‘This Masquerade’. Just before midnight the church bells will chime across the city ringing in the New Year, which is followed by darkness as all the lights around the lake go out to be replaced with a spectacular display of fireworks over Lake Zurich.
