The majestic InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu

Luxury-Hotel-Marseilles-France-03

Perched atop Le Panier, in the oldest part of France’s second largest city, InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu is a majestic XVIIIth century building transformed from the former Hotel Dieu.

Originally designed by a nephew of the renowned architect Mansart, the building boasts superb staircases, vaulted passageways and large terraces and, as an added bonus it overlooks the city, offering spectacular views of the Vieux Port and the very ornate Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica.

The luxury French hotel is located at the foot of Le Panier, the oldest part of Marseilles, and is a mere few steps from the Vieux Port, a historical and cultural centre and a landmark in France’s second largest city.

The building designed by a nephew of Mansart,  contains impressive staircases,  vaulted passage ways and large terraces,  overlooks the city and offers spectacular views of the Vieux Port and the iconic Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica.

The luxury French hotel is possibly the most significant and impressive of Marseilles’ 5 star hotels,  offering 194 rooms,  including 22 suites. Seventy-two  rooms showcase sensational,  panoramic views of the Vieux Port and a number of suites have imposing private terraces,  overlooking the stunning city center.

The architecture of the hotel was entrusted to Jean-Philippe Nuel, a world reference in luxury hotel design and whose works are characterised by their diversity. Jean-Philippe Nuel was inspired by the building itself: eighteenth century architecture from plans by Mansart, it was considered one of the finest hospital achievements in French architecture under the Old Regime.

The luxury hotel in Marseilles boats two restaurants, lounge bar, covered swimming pool and a fabulous Clarins spa – a first for Marseilles.

From the hotel windows one has the impression of being within the beating heart of this bustling,  ancient city which due to its booming tourism and cruise industry,  has been nominated European Capital of Culture in 2013 and Marseille-Provence airport is only 25 km away.
