The Luxury New York by Gehry Residential Tower

Los Angeles-based Gehry Partners, LLP has designed the New York by Gehry. The contemporary residential tower can be found on Eight Spruce Street in Manhattan, New York.

New York by Gehry at Eight Spruce Street—the first residential tower designed in New York City by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry—has redefined the skyline of Lower Manhattan. The 76-storey high-rise offers dramatic living spaces, unsurpassed amenities and unobstructed 360-degree panoramic views from its 899 residences. The mixed-use development features a 1.1-million-square-foot structure sheathed in Frank Gehry’s distinctive glass and stainless steel cladding atop a 100-foot, six-storey masonry podium, housing the first public school ever built in New York City on private land.

In addition to 899 rental apartments, the contemporary New York property includes a four-storey, public school; an ambulatory care center for New York Downtown Hospital to be used as doctors’ offices; parking for 175 cars for hospital use; and neighbourhood-oriented ground-floor retail space. The site also includes two beautifully landscaped public plazas totaling 15,000 square feet designed by Field Operations.

Residents have exclusive access to a 24-hour doorman, complete concierge services, and indoor and outdoor health, wellness, social, and entertainment amenity spaces. Many of these exceptional spaces can be reserved for residents’ events. A broad range of amenities are offered to the residents such as grilling terrace with cabanas, sky-lit 50ft pool, fitness center with views of Brooklyn Bridge, spa, games room, library, Yoga and Pilates studio.

Frank Gehry said: “Beekman was designed with a great respect for the typology of New York skyscrapers. My goal is to create an elegant residential tower, one that speaks to the surrounding towers but also creates its own architectural identity. This is a building that could only be built in New York.”

The contemporary New York skyscraper is the tallest residential building in the USA.

For the residential portion of the tower, Gehry designed all of the building’s finishes, including the amenities and the interiors of the apartments as well as the public spaces.
