Refined elegance – Brook House by Daniel Hopwood
London-based multi-disciplinary practice, Daniel Hopwood, have designed the Brook House project. Completed in 2013, the regency property can be found in the affluent Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London.
According to the designer: “The clients, a young professional couple, needed the house to address the divergent needs of a new family. It had to have areas for formal entertaining as well as private spaces for relaxation.
“The design challenge was to find a solution to the clients’ very functional requirements for the house as well as the divergent design preferences – he leaned towards monochromatic modernism and she liked a more romantic environment.
“The clients had a shared desire to have a crafted interior rather than relying on recognisable designer brands to reflect this style.
“The key was to create rooms with individual personalities that would be united with obsessive attention to detail in material and colour choices. It would be a marriage that celebrated difference: its strength being its ability to assert individual personalities while remaining unified by craft.
“Rooms were reconfigured to create the basement cinema room and kitchen that led onto a conservatory style dining room with doors leading into the garden. A formal drawing room also on the garden level of the house retailed is gracious proportions, moulded cornices and view of the beautiful greenery outside. Rooms leading out to the garden were painted in a tranquil dove grey. Though the overall appearance is feminine, some masculine elements were included: black granite surfaces in the kitchen offset the bespoke cabinetry and dark furniture, lampshades and picture frames punctuate light soft furnishing in the drawing room.”
Adelto loves the sumptuous bathroom design. The antique floral wallpaper brings a real feminine touch to this room and the designs echoed on the towels in a space fitted with vintage-style porcelain and Venetian mirror.
