Internationally renowned National Geographic photographer Catherine Karnow has been teaching photography since the 90s and has now announced a unique photo workshop in Umbria, Italy in May.

The 10-day intensive photo workshop, aimed at all levels of photographers, will focus on the people, culture and food of Umbria. Every day is a different adventure. A highly experienced travel photojournalist, Catherine Karnow has organised a workshop packed with fun experiences, specifically designed so that you spend real time with locals.

“This workshop will be what it is like to be me, Catherine Karnow, on assignment for my favourite travel magazine clients, such as National Geographic Traveler. In my career I have been lucky to meet all sorts of fascinating people and have all kinds of extraordinary experiences. I want you to know what that is like. I have handpicked the most fun parts and people for you to meet and photograph. We will also learn from local experts about the culture, history, art, and food of Umbria,” said Karnow.

Excursions include photographing the local Fiat Cinquecento club: the owners and their tiny cars in the town of Viterbo; going out at dawn with fishermen to photograph their ancient way of net fishing on Lake Bolsena; documenting the most prestigious ceramics workshop in the historic town of Deruta; joining in a colorful festival of ancient rituals in the lakeside town of Marta; dining with an aristocratic couple in their elegant palazzo; and much more!

The work shop is taking place at the quaint La Locanda della Quercia Calante, a beautifully restored farmhouse and cottage twenty minutes from Orvieto. The food at La Locanda is delicious and healthy, much of it from their own organic farm. There are also meals in local restaurants. Yoga is optional and spa services are also available.

Catherine Karnow has been teaching photography since 1995; and has taught at Maine Photo Workshops, Santa Fe Photo Workshops, and many others. For National Geographic, she currently teaches Weekend Workshops in San Francisco, at Miraval in Tucson; and the National Geographic Traveler Seminar in cities all over the US. She also gives private workshops and teaching seminars all over the world, for a myriad of private, corporate and editorial clients.

The workshop takes place between 8-18 May. For more information visit catherinekarnowphotoworkshop.com
