Modernist apartment design in Westminster, London
London-based interior design and architecture practice Lawson Robb has completed the Riverside Apartment project. Completed in 2015, the luxurious property can be found in Westminster, London, England.
This stylish Westminster pied-a-terre was designed for a long standing client of the London-based practice and is being used as a bolthole for visiting family.
According to the designers: “The building’s brutalist architecture sets the tone for interior visual language, the result: a masculine take on contemporary luxury with strong linear minimalism. The thrust of the design is hinged on geometric patterns applied cross-dimensionally to floors, wall coverings, upholstery and lighting. Flooring takes oak Cheville parquet and balances it with Atlantic honed lava stone, cut into geometric slabs and re-aligned with the space.
Pairing cow hide leather with soft lamb suede creates a textural patchwork backdrop for a weighty marble table carved from a single piece of stone. The entertaining hero lies in the bar; designed in-house, its key detail is stained straw marquetry. The interior of the bar is clad in tinted mirror, bronze and lati veneer with sumptuous electric blue lambs leather.
“Monochrome plays a large part in the master bedroom’s interior design where plates as artwork set the theme. The bed is upholstered in pure white twill and offset with a stud detail in matt black. The black steel and lacquer carcass of bedside tables is softened by drawers clad and lined in white vellum. The dressing room continues the theme using exotic shagreen, while in the bathroom, hand-selected Bianco Caribib slabs are match contrasted with Mystery White marble with brassware in custom gold.
“For a splash of colour, the adjacent bedroom is where you will find it. Here a colourful Hermes stripe twill is bound in contrasting lambs leather with over-stitching detail, with bedside tables lacquered in a red earth high gloss. The wall lamps are inspired by mid-Century’s scissor mechanism in custom white with brushed brass while antique brass detailing and matt-painted rattan handles provide textural surprise. In all, a bijou masterpiece invoking key design elements of early 20th-century styling, all in harmony with the building and its view.”
