Modern IO House with sliding doors, Japan

Osaka-based architectural practice Osamu Morishita, Architect & Associates have designed the IO House project. The contemporary two-storey home can be found in Anjo, Aichi, Japan.

According to the architects: “IO is a small house made of wood. I considered how to create an open plan living space for a young family who prefer intimateness between families and neighbours to privacy. In a traditional Japanese house people don’t often feel solitude.

“This contemporary house has sliding doors and it also has “Doma” (earth floor) which old Japanese houses had for the entrance and multipurpose including kitchen, where people communicate between each other and work together.

“The contemporary Japanese property is easily approachable from the main road, and the family can handle cooperating work there. There are no walls but just sliding doors so the family cannot have the strictest  privacy but they can feel their own warmness.”
