Italy’s Eurochocolate Festival celebrates Evergreen

The sweetest festival in Europe, the Eurochocolate Festival, will see chocoholics in their thousands descending on the medieval city of Perugia in Italy, this October.

This delicious festival dedicated to the “food of the gods” began in 1994 in Perugia, Italy, a lovely medieval city located halfway between Rome and Florence. Since then it has grown to become one of the most highly attended events dedicated exclusively to the world of chocolate – how fabulous!

The annual festival takes place in autumn, in October. The streets, squares, artistic and historical landmarks are animated with events, cultural itineraries, tastings, performances and shows in the heart of Perugia’s historic centre. Each year Eurochocolate presents a completely new marketing campaign and this year organisers are celebrating their twentieth anniversary with sustainability and the world of ecology in mind. Evergreen – the sustainable sweetness of being will be the official theme of this year’s festival.

For nine days the city of Perugia transforms into a gigantic open-air chocolaterie, in harmony with the urban architecture that offers even more to see, besides the event both to businesses and to chocolate lovers from all over the world. The city’s acropolis, with its historical buildings and beautiful squares, provides the stage for the majority of the events, organised in collaboration with partner companies from both inside and outside the chocolate industry. More than 500 large and small events maintain the quick pace of the event for nine days.

Not to be missed is the  Sculture di Cioccolato (Chocolate Sculptures).  On Sunday October 20th five skillful artists will delight your eyes and palate while transforming five enormous fondant chocolate blocks, one cubic meter each, in original and gourmand works of art inspired by the Evergreen theme and by the first twenty years of Eurochocolate.

If you need somewhere luxurious to stay we would recommend the Etruscan Chocohotel or Hotel Brufani Palace in the historic center of the town.

Eurochocolate Festival runs from October 18-27, Viale Centova 6, 06128 Perugia, Italy, eurochocolate.com
