Gastronomic Delight La Grelha Restaurant, Mexico

Designed and completed in 2009 by Jalisco-based Hernandez Silva Arquitectos. La Grelha Restaurant can be found in Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico.

The name Le Grelha was taken from the Portuguese word meaning ‘Barbeque’ and this was the concept for the initial project. The open plan restaurant was built on a small budget, so the architects opted to use the simplest of materials.  The contemporary restaurants red glass lighting is very much in keeping with the Jalisco region.

The city of Guadalajara has a humid subtropical climate, so designing a terrace for alfresco dining is a great idea.  Due to its subtropical climate rain can be heavy but it doesn’t usually last for long, therefore the terrace has a hidden window behind wooden marimbas and only extends when the weather demands it.
