Contemporary Home Lagos, Portugal

Portugal-based design studio Mario Martins Atelier has designed the House in Lagos. Completed in 2010, this contemporary home is situated in the coastal town of Lagos, in the Barlavento region of the Algarve, Portugal.

According to the architects: “This house was designed in featureless surroundings but with a fabulous view over the west Algarve coastline, which receives the westerly sun in abundance. The project is based on technically evolved solutions, with the emphasis on energy sustainability, the use of geothermal power and an integrated domotics system.

“The contemporary Portuguese property design was inspired by lightness and it sits on an exposed concrete base, balanced over landscaped terraces and water features such as  a swimming pool and lake – the rooftop garden accentuates this concept.

The entrance can be found over a suspended concrete walkway. On reaching the upper storey we grasp the fluidity of the space containing the lounge, kitchen and the large double height area, where a reflecting pool completely fills the space.” Images courtesy of FG+SG.
