Contemporary Casa Up, Italy

Casa Up has been designed by Italian architects at Es Arch – Enrico Scaramellini Architetto. This modern one-bedroom home can be found in township of Madesimo, in the Italian region of Lombardy, a popular tourist region for winter sports.

The project involved the reconstruction of the old building while respecting its original layout. The existing building is configured through two superimposed layers with different functions: the ground floor, a large room divided into three areas, which were the stables, on the first floor is the barn with access from the southern side of the contemporary barn.

Externally, the existing building is characterised by a double opening superimposed on the east side, a large entrance to the south and a low block with a separate entrance to south.

The architects have said that: “The Main purpose of this project was to build a new home that respected the context and proposed traditional volumes using existing marks to build a contemporary architecture.” Images courtesy of Marcello Mariana.
