Contemporary Alberschwende House, Austria

Bergen-based design studio k_m architektur has designed the  Alberschwende House project. The contemporary property comes with undulating views of the Bregenzerwald area and can be found in Alberschwende, Austria.

According to the architects: “This contemporary Austrian house is situated in a meadow on the outskirts of Alberschwende. It faces south and offers a sublime view to an upland moor and the mountains of the surrounding area of Bregenzerwald. A floating design and the use of natural materials using concrete, glass and wood as structural material characterise the single family home.

“The difference of the residential home are clearly divided by floors. The upper floor houses the private bedrooms of the family. The ground floor contains a generous dining and living space with a stove acting as a room divider. Positioned in front of the dining and living area, a roofed terrace, links the interior and the exterior space through room-high glazing.

“The entire façade of the building is clad with natural white pine wood clapboards taken from the local region. Thanks to this wooden façade, which has already weathered to a light grey colour, the building fits in harmoniously with the traditional rustic texture of the region. A geothermic heating produces most of the energy for the contemporary Austrian property supplemented by rooftop photovoltaic panels and a stove in the living area.”
