Autumn inspiration: Trends and tips for the home

Autumn is a beautiful time of year. I love the colours of this season – there are so many warm, deep, natural tones. Even though the skies are turning grey and dull, this doesn’t mean our interiors have to follow suit, says interior designer Anna-Grace Davidson.

A home should be welcoming, evoking a feeling of warmth, comfort and relaxation, especially in the autumn season. During this time of year, use rich, earthy hues, cool greens and greys to help create an inviting atmosphere. A classic deep brown sofa is always going to look great all year around, but in the autumn it looks fantastic when paired with smaller pieces of furniture in lively colours such as sage green, golden yellows and burnt orange which will really give the space a lift.

If these colours are too neutral, make a movement towards more bold tones, with summer having faded, a stylish and eye-catching armchair will the perfect option to brighten up the home. Standout upholstery in yellow for example can add a burst of energy to enliven a room.

As temperatures drop, make use of layers by building depth with fabric. Not only does this look exceptional but it also works for creating warmth and adding a comforting element. Luxurious layers of contrasting textures will help ensure a sense of total calm and a look of complete elegance, especially in a bedroom setting.

It is important to have different textures within your space; The look and feel of a leather sofa contrasted with other fabrics such silk or fur throws creates a gorgeous display when offset against other harder furniture pieces such as a coffee table with a lacquer finish. You can also add unexpected and uniquely textured items like the Mama Nepal chair by Baxter, which is made of soft Mongolian, wool for something more unique and truly comfortable.

Cushions are another great way to enhance and add interest to sofas and armchairs. Try a mix of varied sizes and shades to add character and form. Detailed, textured cushions are especially suited help give that extra touch of luxury and help to add form to a room when incorporated into the setting. Uniqueness and comfort are the inspirations for home design this season to help create a sophisticated yet relaxed environment.

Autumn to me is a time of reflection, as the year is gradually coming to an end it is a good idea to create a cosy space by the fireplace for example, or a private area where one can sit, meditate, and relax. Fill this space with comfortable furniture, artwork and scented candles.

I am also excited to announce that Anna Casa has recently launched Baxter’s first flagship showroom in Mayfair. The debut collection is inspired by 1950s style, with many traditionally influenced pieces that are on trend for the autumn season.

Described by the media as “the leading candidate for the most glamorous woman in interior design”, Anna-Grace Davidson is a talented international interior designer. Born in Kiev, grew up in Berlin and now based in London.
